In a meeting that reflects the unity of Palestinian basketball and its determination to move forward, representatives of basketball clubs and organizations in the northern governorates gathered yesterday at the headquarters of the Palestinian Basketball Federation in Ramallah, in response to the federation's invitation to discuss the launch of the 2025 sports season and the organization of upcoming tournaments.
Despite the obstacles imposed by the occupation and the difficulties of movement, clubs from the north, center, Jerusalem, and south responded to the invitation, reaffirming the cohesion of the basketball system and its unified goal of supporting and sustaining the game.
The president of the federation opened the session with a welcoming speech, praising the attendees and thanking the clubs for their commitment and concern for the interests of Palestinian basketball. He emphasized that the past period has left significant negative impacts on the clubs and players, making it essential to resume sports activities to maintain the continuity and development of the game. He added that the federation has decided to start the 2025 season by organizing activation tournaments in preparation for the upcoming sports season 2025-2026, with the current season serving as a preparatory phase to help energize the clubs and players.
Board member Mr. Awda Awad spoke about how the board's decision came based on “our sense of responsibility towards our children and athletes, and in application of the goals of the sports system that ensure the continuity of our athletes and players and do not extinguish their passion.”
In the next step, clubs will be invited to agree on the appropriate mechanism for holding tournaments in a way that suits the current situation, ensuring effective and flexible participation in light of the existing challenges.
During the session, the floor was opened for discussion among the representatives of the attending clubs and organizations, who responded positively and confirmed their readiness to participate, based on their belief in the role of sports in enhancing resilience and continuity despite all challenges.
In the next step, meetings will be held for clubs in the southern governorates, reaffirming that Palestinian basketball will remain vibrant in every inch of the Palestinian state, enhancing the unity of the system and achieving its common goals.
